Meet Alex
Meet our new go-everywhere-sidekick: Alex. A bear my sister gave me some 23 years ago. He's never been stored away like my other beloved stuffed animals. We have a special bond, Alex and I. We go way back. He accompanied me on every sleepover, every vacation, every trip to summer camps, and slept with me every night. He's been just an accessory in the little one's bed for months, simply because I had nowhere else to put him.
One day out of the blue, she wouldn't get out of her bed unless Alex came too. Then she wouldn't go for a ride in the car unless Alex came too. (Notice the slight protective look on her face while clutching her pal.)
We've discovered he loves bananas.
He wears cloth diapers just like the little one and she insists on changing them frequently.
He often accompanies the little one on rides around the living room.
He just adores dancing.
His wardrobe is growing daily.
He's almost potty trained. The little one is tired of washing his cloth diapers, so she's pushing for early training. (The boots? Completely her idea.)
Sometimes he has accidents.
But they are the greatest pals. He's well loved; getting kisses throughout the day, always the recipient of a snack, and going on trips. It's so wonderful to see Alex coming to life again, being loved by another little one, and appreciated for the special little guy he is.

how adorable, i love alex!!!

How adorable! I still have the bunny that I got for Easter the year I was 6. Maybe I should get it down and see if Signal takes to him too. And I agree with Nicole. Got to love Alex's head in the potty.

This might be one of my all-time favorite blog posts. The relationship between a child and a special plaything is so remarkable. It's why I make dolls, you know?!

so, so wonderful. now both of you are attached to alex. an important character in the story of life. (it's a panda in our house) but the slight protective look you pointed out? it looks seriously protective to me!

Merry Christmas! I haven't been on your blog in ages and ages and I stopped in to take a peek at your Christmas. Guess what? I bought that EXACT identical same potty chair at Target today for Austin! Isn't that a coincidence? You guys look great and how wonderful for you that you had such a nice article written. Very neat!
