A Date
I should probably start off by saying Stephen and I have not been on a date (or out alone for that matter) since the little one was born. That is, if you don't count two weeks ago when we went to dinner at a friend's house down the street. But a real date, including food someone else cooked for you in a nice restaurant, and a play at a local theater is really what we need. And that's exactly what we'll get come tomorrow night.
One look through my closet revealed that my "nice" clothes are all for playing gigs; black pants or skirts, white shirts. I needed something special. I remembered the Simplicity pattern #3835 which I attempted last summer with pretty swell results. So I thought I would try it again, only with a little tweaking.
I used brown linen for most of the shirt and a great little blue textured print I found at my favorite fabric store. I added about two inches to the sleeve length and am very glad I did. I tend to dislike when shirt sleeves end right at my elbow.
I serged everything so there would be no raw edges. I ended up taking it in after, but overall the fit is good and I'm pleased. The neckline is perfect. Not too wide that I would be fidgeting with it all evening, and I love the fact that I can either dress it up or down depending on my mood.
Now I just have to find (or make) something to go with it...
Have a lovely weekend! See you back here on Monday.

For years we never went out on a date, but then last year we started a weekly date night. It has become my favorite night of the week and something I look forward to. We leave our kids with my parents and we have 3 hours alone to do whatever we like. It usually involves dinner and getting groceries, but being alone with my hubby makes it all so much fun!

I bet it is so satisfying to make your own clothes - the shirt turned out so pretty. Have a lovely evening out with your husband!

We can only go out after the girls are in bed, so our dates usually start around 9:30. Have a great time!( Maybe you should start selling adult clothes too.

We were so "can't go anywhere, can't leave the baby" when E was little, and have eased up on that more since having J. Although, oddly, he's still had fewer bottles than she ever did.
Anyway, have a great time!!! It's well-deserved!
I think you should go with pants with that top. I mean, I wear only skirts, but that doesn't mean everyone else should!!
And I love what you did with the top. LOVE. It's so pretty! I've had that pattern sitting here for a looooong time, and have never tried it. Maybe I should pull it out. I love what you've done with it so.

Wow! It looks really great! I love the fabric and colors you used!
The neckline is excellent! I agree with Grace, I think pants would look nice with this, I also see natural stone earings in blue and brown with this shirt. :) I know what you mean about not going out!! Enjoy your time together!

Have fun on your date!

I love that shirt! I think I have that pattern here but haven't had time to try it yet. It's on my ever expanding list! The shirt looks great on you. That blue fabric is the perfect accent to the brown linen. Sigh. Oh, and I hope you had a great time out!
