Just Like Us

Reading the paper before breakfast

I think one of the most amusing things about having a little one is the imitating that goes on. She watches us ever so carefully, during times when we think her attention is elsewhere, and then surprises us by doing the exact thing we were doing minutes ago. Yesterday I turned around from my pancake making activities to find her reading the paper. Her face, the pose, everything about this just made me want to laugh and cry in the same moment.

Reading the paper before breakfast

She has this imitation down to a "T." Complete with reading out loud and turning the pages. She points to pictures and reads the captions underneath. She puts the paper down and sighs, picking up her mug of water, and then goes right back to reading. Obviously the pancake making activities were put to a halt and I ran to get the camera. Oh, these are the moments I hope to never forget.

Vintage buttons!

Due to the carbon monoxide fiasco, we had the pleasure of getting to know a lovely neighbor. While at her house with the little one we not only discovered she collects buttons, but that she also adores thrifting. She graciously gave me a bag of vintage buttons (and another bag made its way home yesterday) and we made a date to go thrifting at two of our favorite local spots.

Thrifted

So on Tuesday we headed out for a little thrifting fun. I finally (after months of searching) found a chenille bedspread in absolutely perfect condition. The price tag couldn't have been better either. It's all washed and ready to go on the bed. I'm anxiously awaiting our next trip already...

What a hoot that first pic is!!!

Oh my gosh she's so cute!

little ones are the BEST! :)

Those pictures are priceless! She is too cute! I've also been looking for a chenille bedspread, those are so pretty and simple- good find!

the first pic must go in a frame on the wall! hysterical!

i am with the others so far - that first photo is a total classic!

i agree! what an awesome shot, it it awesome how much they do emulate what you do, so cute!

Aw, sweet little one! How very very exciting, a neighbor who collects vintage buttons and likes to go thirifting! Sounds pretty great to me! Excellent beadspread, I have one like it on my bed too.

I think I hooted when I saw the pictures. Oh my goodness! Amazing.

And I envy both meeting a great neighbor AND the chenille spread. Score.

heeheeheeheehee...
i LOVE those pictures
reading the paper...
the expression...
and the pose...
too funny!

That is so cute! The imitating is just what she ought to be doing. Right up through kindergarten! I get so exhausted by people thinking that's what babies do and that 4, 5 & 6 year olds are supposed to be all academic, all the time. Exhausted, I tell you.

But back to your cuteness there! Wow, she's adorable, and I just love it.

Sick kids here today. Sigh.

priceless first picture! and i agree with grace, imitation is the exact nature of babies and children up until the age of 7 (or change of teeth). what a beautiful way to teach our children. and what a pleasure to see your child imitate so perfectly!

I love the pictures, she looks so involved with the paper.

What goodies! I am sorry to hear that you have been sick and hope you are better soon! Will you take me thrifting when I come to Maine??!

i LOVE that picture of elisabeth. it's so adorable. i cut it out of the paper and put it on our fridge here at home.

i'm "borrowing" that picture of elisabeth with the paper. It will be on the bookshops myspace page along with one of the piano playing ones. Gosh she is my favorite baby and you my favorite mom of a baby. (i don't want juliana to read that and get mad at me)

wow, she's a little actress! If she wasn't so small, I would really think she was reading that paper! btw, I really have enjoyed taking a first peek at your blog, your photos are lovely!

I am so happy I found your blog! I, too, have been searching for a white chenille bedspread. My grammy had one on her bed, and I have so many memories of it. Someday...
