The "Big Secret": The Green Room

Tada!

The unveiling has finally arrived. I'm a bit nervous letting you all peek into my new workspace, and a tad excited too. My holiday week was spent running around to hardware stores, painting three different coats of green (more on that later...), breathing in the awful fumes of floor paint, being splattered with drops of white while painting the ceiling, deciding just where I wanted things to go, and finally moving in.

My new workspace-in progress

Remember the room before? It seemed like it would never be finished. We both had so much on our plates and the time to work on my new space was limited. With the help of our great friend and neighbor, my mother who is an excellent babysitter, and the so very multi-talented-handy-man-of-a-husband, the room was finished in a little over two months time. Phew.

So how about the grand tour? Please check out my flickr set for notes and more information about each little corner of my room. For now, I just want to show you. I'll let the pictures tell the story.

It's not quite done. There's lighting fixtures to be added, artwork to put up from Etsy, and of course a small detail: the door. But I love it. I love every minute I spend here. I feel less hurried,  like I'm allowed to take my time. I can breathe and move around my space as I please. There aren't dining room tables or cabinets full of dishes in the way. I can listen to whatever music I want, sing at the top of my lungs, dance, and make a complete fool of myself in the privacy of my own little space. I'm beyond thrilled to have this and feel so lucky my talented husband made it possible. Thanks sweetie. I owe you one...

Now, let the crafting begin!

oh erin it is beautiful! (i told you i'd be here bright and early) there is so much i want to say and comment on... i love the colors. the blues that are used in many studios are so pretty, but i am such a green girl at heart... the floor rocks! i can't even begin to express how cool that is... i know your lighting is incomplete but i love those old school fixtures hanging from the ceiling... it's also so wonderful that you have a separate cutting area from your sewing, and on top of it a "desk" spot - it's all so perfect. but my favorite part is the window. when you first shared this space i thought "how wonderful, but the poor girl should have a window!" and you do! now you can have your living space back and what a luxury that will feel like.

happy creating erin, you really deserve this.

hoo-boy!! looks so shiney and fun! i'm sure you'll spend many an hour creating all kinds of beautiful things!

erin,
wow, wow, wow! olive's room is that exact color... i was ironically at the fabric store when you called rhea to ask about the name of the color and she told me that she had a room that color, too. a strange circle we are running around eachother! i'm soooo happy for you (and slightly darker green than your walls with envy)and know that many wonderful things will come out of your new space. congrats again!

Congratulations to you! You're really going to enjoy your room. You'll love just walking away from your project without cleaning up and being able to jump right back in when you can. It saves time!

I love your new room - I bet it is so inspiring and motivating to have your own place to work and create - I love all the bright colors, and I am so jealous of your floor! A couple years ago my husband and I lived in a big old farmhouse that had a HUGE bathroom, only the floors were wooden and had black glue stuck all over them - the black/white checkered floor was what we were going to put in, but never got to it. Best of luck with your resolution to play more trumpet again. I'm a trumpet player, too! I was going to major in performance, but, well - I got married a tad sooner than I ever expected (19), so that kind of never happened. I miss it a lot! Happy New Year!

What an exciting thing to get such a beautiful space to be creative! I'm crazy about the color of the walls and the floor. I'm eagerly anticipating the wonderful creations that I'm sure will be coming out of that room and into your Etsy shop. Have a great day.

So nice! Nothing beats having your own space to shake your booty.

What a great space Erin. I look forward to having a place like this to sew one day! Hope you have many happy hours creating in there - what a lovely start to 2008!

Congratulations Erin! What a great space you have created! I love the floor, the desk with your sewing machine, and the cutting table!!! You will love not having to lug everything to and fro! The pictures on the wall, the chaulkboard, the bird linen.... o.k. I love it all :) Happy creating!

Erin, go on with your fabulous self!!! Everything looks totally snazzy. I'm comin' over to see it for meself. What ya doin' tomorrow? I'll bring you a soy latte or something. Next exciting project is the classroom at the store. After seeing your whole transformation I'm thinking we need something more jazzy. I love it so much, congratulations, sweetie!!!

XOXO

fantastic. congratulations to you. it looks like such a creative space. and all your own. (i have to admit to being a teensy bit jealous! is that awful?) enjoy it, erin!

WOW. It's perfect.

And, I never thought about being able to listen to whatever music you want, screech, er, sing at the top of your lungs (you don't screech, just me), and dance in the privacy of your own space as an added bonus to having said space. Well, now I'm even more excited for when I get my own!!

Oh, my! Excuse me while I go mop up the puddle of drool that has collected around my feet . . .

Soooo great for you!!! The green room is so cool. Nice husband. Really happy for you. You go girl in 2008!

tip: some kind of advertising at the local waldorf schools/nursery schools. I know the one my mom works at has an annual auction where people can donate things. Might be a way to get the word out about your lovely wares?
