In the Green Room
About two weeks ago I was commissioned by someone in Colorado to make stage curtains. I picked out a beautiful dark green velvet with some gold trim, and have been working on them for a good week now. They are so long and wide that I've had trouble measuring, cutting, and sewing. Above is a picture of me sewing a finished edge, with a mass of fabric in my lap. It's been a good challenge figuring it all out.
I think the end result will look mighty impressive on the stage. They look like the real deal. I wanted the curtains to have a professional look to them in hopes that it will make the children performing feel extra special. They will be finished tonight and shipped out tomorrow to be up and ready for their first performance on Saturday. How exciting...a little bit of Bluebirdbaby on stage!
All of a sudden I've been bombarded with requests for birthday banners. I made one for Elisabeth's first birthday and decided to make an extra one for my shop shortly after. They take a good deal of time to make, so I haven't really had a chance to add anymore, but I've been more than happy to accept custom orders. I finished the one above last night and I think the birthday boy will be pleased with it.
And remember the dress that didn't fit? It's off to a new home, but I still haven't been able to find another one to replace it. I'm so particular now about clothing, so I've decided to make one. The only problem is the event is this Saturday night. I'm thinking that cute dress on the left, only a longer length. I have some light brown linen I picked up this weekend that I plan to use.
And won't these new ballet flats go swell with it? Not entirely practical for a snow and ice covered wintry Maine, but they are very comfortable. Now if I can only finish the dress in time...

is the event the chocolate lovers festival? i want to go, but my stupid brother has to get married that day...how inconvenient. :)
i went last year and the chocolate is so good!

Erin,
You are just SO prolific with your sewing! And so incredibly talented! I'm about to start working on a birthday banner (though, mine will say "celebrate" so it can be used for other celebrations in the future). My little one is about to turn 3 (gasp). I'm wondering how you attach your letters to your banner. Do you fuse them on and then appliqué? Do you bother sewing them on? Zig zag stitch or satin? Yours have turned out so beautifully, I'm wondering if you have any tips. Thanks so much for sharing yourself with the blogosphere. You're truly an inspiration.

Your custom orders look great! Love your new shoes!

I agree. I have no idea how you get so much sewing done. For example, today I'm thinking, "what am I going to blog about? My headache? The nightmare I had last night that one of my children fell down a looooong flight of stairs while trick-or-treating and DIED and while I was calling 911 the other one ran away and got lost?! Or something else equally tasteful?" My point is, I just don't have as much crafty content to share as you do. You amaze me. xoxox

wow, love those shoes and they're going to look so cute with that dress, nice call! definitely better than the dress that didn't fit! And I love those birthday banners, so cute. How big is the stage you're making those curtains for? Just curious if they were like a real stage size or more like a children's theater smaller stage. Good luck!

Congratulations on all your commissions - great news! I have my eye on that pattern too, one day I may actually be brave enough to try sewing something to wear!
