We're gearing up for Halloween. The costume is done (after about 10 hours of work), we now have to buy $60 worth of treats to feed the 500+ kids that come to our house, and we're carving our pumpkins tomorrow!
Somehow I seemed to have lost a huge amount of pictures from the last two weeks. I'm super bummed about it and hoping they pop up somewhere. There were some cute ones in there!
***Oh, and we have two slots open for the shoot in NYC on the 13th and 14th of November. FREE sessions people! Yipee! So if you are in the area, e-mail me (erin@freyaphotograpy.com) and we'll set you up!***
Happy weekend everyone!

I got a call last week from a Mike Garrard. I almost didn't take the call because it was a foreign number, and I thought for sure it was some kind of mistake. But I picked up, and boy was I glad I did! It was Mike, from the UK, asking if I could shoot an engagement session for he and his fiance while they were in Maine for a few days. I was honored that he asked me and so very excited for the shoot!
So we met in the rain, in Portland, on Sunday afternoon. We walked around the city, finding little nooks and using some of the awesome locations I found during my last Portland shoot. I came away with some great shots. The rain soaked my camera, and I gave up the idea of switching lenses, and stuck with just one the whole time :: my 30mm 1.4f.
After the shoot, we warmed up with some good conversation and hot chocolate. Mike was voted Britian's #1 wedding photographer of 2009, teaches classes, and has been shooting for 7 years. He was so humble and so full of knowledge. It was such a pleasure chatting photography with him. Marie was so sweet putting up with our photo chat!
Here's a glimpse of the shoot (more here!). Aren't they amazing together? Marie was such a super awesome model (she is so beautiful!), and Mike did an amazing job on the other side of the camera! Thanks you two...it was such a pleasure. I hope we hook up again in the near future!!
Check out Mike's website here.
Cheers!

Wait! That's not me! No... that is just my super handsome man sporting his new do. I love this picture of him and his child-like grin. And I love his do. I love that he lets me style his do every morning. Sasa, you are one handsome styled dude. I love you. Smooch!
We were invited to a wedding this past weekend up the coast in a beeeeeautiful part of the state. And not just any wedding, but the wedding of Rhea and Oliver! I've known Rhea for almost four years and it was such a pleasure photographing her wedding and being a guest! We got some awesome shots (I HIGHLY recommend any bride and groom take two hours before the ceremony to do some creative shots because it is SO worth it!), had a marvelous dinner, some super fun conversation (Glee-A-Thon anyone?! seriously guys...I'm doing it!), and then trekked through the streets of a sleepy little town to find the only open bar, which had the words "thirsty" and "whale" in its name. Sounds pretty awesome, right?
Then Sasa and I woke up early the next morning (much to my moans and pleads) after a sleepless night in our rented cabin (thank you, wild animal, who decided to gnaw on the inside of our wall all night) to drive all the way back down the coast to our home, where I spent all of five minutes shoveling food in my mouth before continuing on to a shoot in the big city (for the coolest couple ever...more on that tomorrow!), where the three of us proceeded to spend two hours out in the rain chasing down lobster people and trying to find some pretty sweet backdrops. How was that for the longest sentence that this blog has ever seen?!! But it was awesome. I would do it all again in a hearbeat. I am, however, slowly recovering from such an instensly fun filled weekend. Sleep sounds so appealing right now, but the 5,000 photos I have from various shoots are still haunting me.
Okie dokie...here are the links ::
What are you loving this Monday?!! And yea...I'll be back with more posting NOT related to photography soon enough. I have about two weeks worth!
Happy Monday y'all!

Well, I'm finally getting around to writing about the sweet little vest I knit the little one for her 4th birthday. AND...I signed up for Ravelry. You can find me here.
The vest? It's way too big. I knit the size 6, hoping it would fit for a few years, but low and behold it actually won't fit until she's six! But that's okay. I have another wee vest in mind for the meantime.
But I loved this pattern. I loved this yarn. It was a fun knit for a beginner! Find all details here!
So...what shall I knit next? I've got a hat for my man on the needles now, and one for me next, but then what?!

The little one was given a disposable film camera yesterday. She took 24 pictures in less than a day and we developed them today. It was so much fun! Here's one I took of her kicking her feet through the leaves on the way to the mailbox.
This film thing is so much fun. I totally plan on adding it as an "extra" to weddings next year. It really rocks. I still have my two SLR cameras from the pre-digital days. And Polaroids too!
We've had a super busy week so far. Craziness just continues to permeate our lives. It's pretty insane. I have so many awesome things to share and photos to show you, but I am beat, beyond exhausted, and have so much work to do that I can't even justify the 10 minutes I'm spending on this.
But I'll be back soon enough! Hopefully tomorrow with an awesome post full of beautiful fall photos!
Oh, and I'm on Twitter now. Find me here!
Cheers! xoxo.

Well, the little one just couldn't stand not having a cat. Sasa and I are still mourning Kiwi, so I was very unsure of the idea of rushing out to get another one. But when we met Mr. Pickles (he came with the name "Sarge"...), it was love at first sight for the little one. He looks like Kiwi too. I'm pretty sure they could be from the same litter.
Mr. Pickles had been at the shelter for a year, so I couldn't leave him there another day. He came home and has settled in nicely. He even sleeps curled up next to the little one. So, so sweet.
I miss Kiwi so much, but I'm very honored to have the pleasure of being with another furry friend. I'm thinking there may be some Super Cat(s) books in the future. And two cats named after food?! Totally rockin'. Although I would have named him after one of my two favorites :: bacon or mayonnaise. But Sasa just wouldn't go for it. Mr. Pickles it is!!
Happy weekend friends! xoxo

First off, thank you thank you thank you ALL for your well wishes and thoughts and prayers. Seriously. Every comment I received in my inbox made me feel so grateful, knowing Kiwi had touched others and was loved by so many. You all are so amazing and kind. Thank you so, so much. It meant so much to us.
Oh man. What a day! I've been training my friend Maria (who has fallen completely head over heels with photography) for the past month. We took today to have a very long, on location photo shoot and lesson. So we headed to the big city for an urban setting. I was the model. I styled each photo, explained how I would shoot, what locations I would choose and why, what I would do with the light, how I would ask the person to sit or stand, whether I would have them smiling or serious, looking at the camera or not, etc. It was awesome. I learned that I love, love, love being in front of the camera. And Maria did an awesome job. All these photos are hers, edited by me. There are more on flickr. She's been shooting for a month (which is when I got her started) and has been fully in manual mode that entire time. She has done amazingly. I am so impressed!
I would love to do couple's shoots in Portland more often. I had SO many ideas. There are so many amazing architectural aspects that can add so much to a photograph. I love the urban setting and colors and textures. It's all so amazing!
Photography is awesome. I love it. I can show everyone how I see the world which is the greatest gift ever. I fall in love with it more and more everyday. How great is that?!!
And just a heads up, I will be offering one-on-one photography lessons online this winter. If you would like to be included on the mailing list, please e-mail me at erin@freyaphotography.com and I will add you to the list. I will have more info soon.
Okie dokie...onto the link!
Okay....what are YOU all loving? Show me some links!!
xoxo.

Oh, I'm in tears as I write this. Kiwi, our beloved cat who's time with us was much too short, was killed yesterday. It was pretty tragic. We're pretty sure a fox got her in broad daylight. Somehow she escaped and made it home with only her two front legs working. I spent the afternoon rushing her to the vet for surgery, and even after we decided to spend all our savings to save her, she died on the table. The damage was just too much.
It's odd having such a sweet and cuddly part of your life missing. We picked her up last night and buried her next to a chipmunk she got recently. The little one thought they might like to be friends now. We had a little blessing ceremony for her life, gave her one last pat, and said goodbye.
Kiwi inspired many songs, a book, and another book we completed in August that I'm still getting the video together for. She was our little Super Cat. It will be so bittersweet finishing that video, but it's a tribute she deserves.
It was hard. She was loved. She was loved so, so much. And this was so sudden. I've never been a cat lover. But Kiwi was different. She was awesome and she will be missed so very much.
We love you Kiwi. You were one brave cat and you will never be forgetten. xoxo.

Glimpses of fall.
Baking. Red, orange, and yellow leaves. Mums. New kitchenware (a big smooch to my sis for those awesome scores!). Zucchini bread and tea parties with neighbors. Finding leaves on our kitchen floor. Wind. Rain. Fall stories. Mugs full of hot tea. Wool sweaters and socks. Blankets on the couch to snuggle under. Cleaning out the gardens of the summer harvest and watching the fall crops grow.
We're enjoying fall so much. I'm amazed at how fast it seems to be flying by.
What are you doing this fall?!

Yay! I'm here and it's Monday and I have LINKS. I know it's been forever. I feel like it's been months. But I've been busy, which is awesome, but tiring nonetheless. And I have bacon waiting for me at the moment, so I need to make this short...
I have been so psyched since I went to NYC. SO complete psyched. I have so many creative ideas brewing in my head. It's awesome. I was in a bit of a rut, just dealing with life in midcoast Maine (which is great, but my creative, or fashion inspiration gets dry sometimes) but I am back in action. I am loving fashion, design, and all that goes with it. NYC was just what I needed.
This is a pic that my second shooter took at the wedding on Saturday (thanks Maria!). Sasa and the little one joined me and we had so much fun. When the dancing started, we headed up to a little balcony that was totally empty and Sasa and I busted a groove. I love this guy so much. I'm starting to think we look alike. Is that crazy?
Onto the links...!
okie dokie. bacon is calling. must go eat.
Happy Monday everyone!! xoxo.

There are truly no words to describe their relationship, their love for one another, or their wedding day. So unique, so loving, so full of passion and life. It was an honor to be a part of it. Please, please, please view their full preview here.
