people in maine continuously complain about the winter. we complain that it's too cold, too snowy, too dark, too lonely. you don't want to venture outside or remove yourself from the heat of your woodstove. oh, and heat. that too...we complain about our savings being drained by the enormous task of keeping our homes somewhat warm. we layer up our bodies so much that we tend to forget there is an actual body underneath. hats with ear flaps and wool socks are the hottest fashion statement since, well...summer.
but yet, we choose to live here. (mark likes to think we choose, but i'm a born and raised mainer and tend ot think i could never really leave.) with the majority of the year spent in winter, we tend to completely value and appreciate the sun and warmth of summer. i don't think we ever took one day for granted. there are those who live for winter sports, but other than our sledding adventures and random ice skating trips, our beloved activities happen during the warmer months.
so winter for us is all about family, connection, friends, good food, board games, home, and the occasional outdoor play when the temperatures permit it.
what is your winter like? what are some of your favorite ways to pass the winter days?
